Privacy Policy
Romeo is designed to be low-data. It looks up a UK postcode, combines ONS reference data with public mapping data, and caches the result to make repeat lookups faster.
What Romeo stores
When a postcode is searched, Romeo may store the postcode, the corresponding ONS reference data, coordinates, reverse-geocoded place details, nearby station details, and a last-updated timestamp in the local server cache.
Romeo is not built to collect names, email addresses, account details, payment details, or other directly identifying profile information from visitors.
Server logs
Romeo records basic server logs, including IP addresses, request timestamps, requested resources, referring URLs, and user agents, to monitor and maintain the service.
These logs are separate from the Romeo postcode lookup cache. Access logs are retained for up to 30 days before automatic removal. Romeo does not use these logs to build visitor profiles, track browsing behaviour, or maintain a history of individual postcode searches.
Why the data is stored
For faster lookups, results are stored on our server and reused. They remain available for reuse until they are refreshed, removed manually, or deleted during routine maintenance.
This storage is used for operational performance and basic service continuity, not for behavioural profiling or advertising.
External services
Romeo uses ONS postcode reference data as the primary source of the postcode record. It also calls OpenStreetMap-powered services, including Nominatim and Overpass, to add public place and nearby transport context.
Those services may receive the lookup coordinates or related request metadata such as IP address and user agent as part of normal web requests. Their own terms and privacy practices apply to that processing.
Cookies
Romeo currently uses a small preference cookie to remember the selected site language. It is not intended for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Retention and control
Cached lookup results are stored on the host server and do not currently have a fixed automatic expiry. They remain available for reuse until they are refreshed, removed manually, or deleted during routine maintenance. Romeo does not intentionally associate cached lookup results with individual visitors.

Security and limits
We take reasonable steps to limit public access to cache files, but no internet-facing service can promise absolute security.
